The Médoc stretches north of Bordeaux, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde Estuary. A remarkable region with particularly poor soils, consisting of gravel rises on clay subsoil. These light, well-drained soils, resulting from the slow drop in water levels during the Quaternary period, provide ideal conditions for the vines to reveal the outstanding quality of the terroir, under the protective influence of a highly favorable microclimate.
A host of Cabernet Sauvignon-infused aromas make a strong opening statement in the 1978 Pichon Lalande. There is certainly no shortage of power or character. If anything, 1978 is perhaps a bit lacking in mid-palate depth, which gives it an element of austerity. Aside from that small critique, 1978 is deeply expressive and gorgeous.
93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
This has a very expressive nose, and a touch of greenness but ebullient black fruits, tar, graphite and cedar all with very fine definitions. The palate is medium-bodied, quite sweet and silky on the entry with good acidity, notes of black cherries, iodine and an almost sorbet-like character towards the finish that shows a surprising amount of glycerine. This is certainly a great success for the vintage, kudos to the late-Michel Delon for fashioning such great wines in modest growing seasons.
92 Wine Spectator
Fully mature, with a slightly juicy feel to the cedar, singed vanilla, blood orange, clove, tobacco, dried currant and cherry fruit flavors. Long, fine-grained tannins let an echo of iron linger. Not fully ripe, but everything has melded elegantly with time.

A wine list from Flask published in the early 1970s
Driving down Ventura Blvd in Studio City in the 1960’s has something in common with today, Flask Fine Wine & Whisky- Flask first opened its doors to the public in 1962. Decades later and it still remains a respected fixture in the Los Angeles community.
We work directly with the wineries, distilleries and breweries to maintain a personal relationship with the creators of some of our favorite products.
We want to know their stories and how they produce bottles that fit into our unique collection. We make a point to keep our selection stocked with a wide variety, offering your classic Napa icons to your natural & organic wines.
We like to think of our whiskey and spirit section as more of a library where the rarest of bottles can be found.
We look forward to helping you find your next favorite bottle!
