This is one of the earliest bottlings, if not the first, of the 20 year old, produced at Old Commonwealth. Van Winkle used these green glass bottles for until 1999 when he switched to clear glass. Altough Van Winkle is synonymous with wheated Stitzel-Weller bourbon, the earliest releases of the 20 and 23 year old actually contained a high-rye bourbon from another source, likely the same batch of 1970s vintage barrels Van Winkle bought from the Old Boone distillery.
